Tonight I took part in my first Social Run. I use social in the loosest possible sense as there was absolutely no chance I was going to be able to talk. What I thought was due to be a 6min/km pace turned out to be a 5:45min/km – Not a huge difference on paper but I certainly felt the difference.
Running with a quicker group was fun. Hard but fun. Having stopped my step up group in early May, I have only been running on my own or taking part in events. This means I’m in control of my pace and that’s something I struggle with. Usually I set of far too quickly and then fade towards the end. It’s a problem of mine I really need to address. It isn’t helped by the Strava for Apple Watch App’s inability to show current pace (It only shows average pace – about as much use as a chocolate teapot).
Tonight was a good opportunity to run at a faster pace for a longer period in a setting other than a race. I even managed to not be the main reason for the loop backs!
I will certainly be giving the group another go!
