My 2020 Race Calendar

It’s never too early to start the race calendar.
My main problem is fitting in all the races I want to do.

Last year, when I took up running, I started with a couple of local races. I didn’t really add much to my race calendar… in fact I didn’t have one as such. Each month, usually after payday when I had a two minute feeling of being flush (before all my bills went out), I would have a look on various race finder websites and see what was coming up. Then I began to use instagram to see what races others were looking forward to and I would sign up to them. The magic of online ads meant it wasn’t long before I was being targeted for races in every possible way. Email ads, Facebook, Instagram… they all seemed to want a piece of the action. Next year’s race calendar is different.

Picking Races

This year, I set goal events early for next year. I had some races I missed out on this year that I really wanted try and some races that I enjoyed so much I wanted to repeat. I’m not usually a revisited (I very rarely go back to a location I have been on holiday). However, there are times when something is so much fun you want to do it again, or you underperformed so much you want to put it right. Next year’s race calendar has a combination of both.

Currently, my aim for all these events is to have fun. I have an unofficial target for the Southampton Marathon and I’m sure that will lead to a target for the Berlin Marathon. I couldn’t resist the ballot for Berlin after such a fun time this year and I was delighted to have been successful. As for the half marathons, I know what time I would love to get but it’s still some way off and I don’t want to commit to it until my training schedule is in place. Then, once I’m properly back in the game, I can see what is possible.

I have exciting plans for my training this year and I can’t wait to share them with you once they are ironed out. Watch this space.
